Monkton
Wyld Court has hosted educational courses,
conferences and gatherings for adults, children
and families for nearly 70 years. Many visitors
return again and again as course leaders and
participants or simply to relax as B&B
guests. As well as our popular workshops and
family activity weeks, we continue to develop our
programme of skills for sustainable living such
as permaculture design, eco-building, green
technologies, sustainable land use and
environmental arts and crafts.
We are located in the hamlet of Monkton Wyld, amidst the rolling hills of Dorset and within walking distance of the stunning Jurassic coast. Our main building is a charming Grade II listed rectory built in 1848 as an early Victorian example of neo-Gothic architecture inspired by Pugin (see The Rectory Report for more details). The house accommodates up to 35 visitors in two- to six-bedded rooms. The communal areas, offering period features and wonderful panoramic views of the countryside, are heated by wood-burning stoves. There is a hall with stage and sprung dance floor, a beautiful sitting room with grand piano, a healing room with massage table, and facilities for making music, pottery and other arts and crafts. Our eclectic and well-stocked library is also available by arrangement.
Outside, we have terraced lawns, a small wood, an orchard, fields leading down to a stream and an inspiring Victorian walled vegetable garden. Our water comes from our own wells and is processed through our reedbed filtration system. We also use solar energy.
The food at Monkton Wyld Court is vegetarian and almost entirely organically grown, and sourced from our own farm and kitchen garden and other local suppliers wherever possible. We cater for vegan, wheat and dairy-free diets by arrangement. We also use eco-friendly and fair trade products.

We had
in common several things: a lack of interest in
money making as a main motive for work, a dislike
for disctatorship, power, politics and
militarism… We wanted to provide something of a
microcosm with basic human activities such as
farming and building going on…
